Gayo Mineral Resources Contributes to Disaster Relief Efforts in The Gayo Region
Hydrometeorological disasters have disrupted access to hundreds of villages in the Gayo Highlands, Aceh Province, following flash floods and landslides that have affected the region since late November. In response to these conditions, PT Gayo Mineral Resources (GMR) deployed humanitarian assistance via air transport using helicopters to reach communities that remain inaccessible to land vehicles. The disaster has resulted in damaged road access, isolated villages, and increased demand for logistics, evacuation, and communication services for affected residents.
Helicopters were used to distribute essential supplies such as rice, drinking water, and other relief packages to locations that are extremely difficult to access. The team also assisted in evacuating residents in need of urgent support. In addition to logistical assistance, PT GMR coordinated with local government authorities to support efforts to accelerate infrastructure recovery. Meanwhile, road access restoration efforts led by the Ministry of Public Works and disaster response teams are ongoing in Gayo Lues and surrounding areas. PT GMR also established an emergency telecommunications post using Starlink services, enabling affected communities to communicate with their families.
Through this initiative, PT Gayo Mineral Resources reaffirms its commitment to actively supporting emergency response and post-disaster recovery efforts, particularly within its operational areas. PT GMR will continue to coordinate with local governments and relevant stakeholders to ensure effective aid distribution and to support the acceleration of infrastructure recovery and the restoration of social conditions in affected communities.
